Bloom Workshop

On the 10th and 11th of March 2011. I took my first ever photography workshop. It was an all women workshop and it was great! When a bunch of women are put together in one room with one common interest, it was fun. Who says that women cannot focus? We certainly did for the 2 days we were there. It was held at FUKUHARA @ The terrace behind Hock Choon. The organizers, Asther Lau, Fiona Lim, Grace and Anna were great teachers and insightful. I learned more on the function of appertures, shutter speed and what it actually does! I learned more about my camera that weekend. ;) Then came the practical side of things. Taking photographs. The first day was taking portrait shots. On the left hand side I decided to take photo of the couple holding hands with her engagement ring. Here they are seen to be having a little fun all under the direction of me. I wanted it to look like they were play fighting.

Here I asked the bride to look a little shy and a little embarrass like the first time he approached her. It worked perfectly. It's all about direction and stay as relax as possible and create dialogue with the couple.

Little Amelie fast asleep

On day two of our workshop, we had the opportunity to shoot 2 babies. One girl and one boy. Both was about 12 days old.

Newborn shoots is difficult. The photographer must have loads of patience to calm the baby down, change his / her diaper and know when he / she wants to feed. Also, to be able to have the baby to 'post' the baby must be in a deep sleep so as to allow the manipulation and positioning of the hands. I was able to take this shot with the help of Asther Lau who is a photographer who specializes in newborn to toddler to families. She made sure the props were ready, undress the baby, rocked her to sleep to be able for us at the bloom workshop to capture this adorable photo. This requires patience and be ready to change a diaper or two!
I could not resist taking a photo of her little foot. It was so cute and perfect.
